4 arrested for duping scores with promise of jobs

Mumbai: Thane police have arrested four persons for duping 36 persons on the pretext of providing jobs in Merchant Navy and taking advance money from the aspirants.

Abdullah Hakeem (42), Vijay Gopal Pillai (55), Aleem Mohammad Musa (60) and Dinesh Shankar Raodhar (29) have been identified as those arrested in the case. The accused would get money from the victims and promise them jobs in shipping companies. Later, the co men would issue them fake documents of Continuous Discharge Certificates (CDCs). They were operating an employment agency called ‘Amreen Movers and Tourism.’ They had taken advance amount of Rs. 50,000 to Rs.1 lakh from every victim.

The accused have been arrested for cheating (Section 420), forgery (Section 465), forgery for purpose of cheating (Section 468), using a forged document as genuine (Section 471) and common intention (Section 34) of the IPC. Raodhar has been arrested on Thursday. The four accused have been remanded in police custody till August 5.

According to the police, the accused would procure the data of job aspirants for Merchant Navy and the data would be provided to Raodhar who would prepare the fake CDC. Shankar was wanted by the Kurla police station and Naupada police station in other forgery cases. The police had received a tip off that Hakeem was going to visit near Uma Public school at Naupada along with fake CDCs. Based on the tip off, they laid a trap and busted the gang.

“Hakeem, Pillai and Musa have been arrested. During interrogation, Hakeem revealed the involvement of his accomplices and their whereabouts.Twenty seven passports, biodata and fake CDCs have been seized from a shop near Dream Mall at Bhandup from where the accused were operating.” Hakeem is a resident of Kodegaon at Dombivali. Pillai is a resident of Kisan nagar at Wagle Estate while Musa is a resident of Mhada colony at Malwani (Malad). Raodhar is a resident of Karjat.
