MUMBAI: A man aged 46-year-old was arrested for molesting a six-year-old girl whom he used to babysit at his residence at Bandra West. Police said the accused touched the child, inappropriately on multiple occasions. Her mother lodged a police complaint when she came to know about the incident. The identity of the accused has not been disclosed.
According to the police, the girl’s mother used to drop the child at the man’s house for babysitting while she was away at work. This cruel act was going on for the past few months. She would pick up the child later in the day. The accused lives with his wife and daughter and worked at a dress designing shop. Both families live in a chawl in Bandra West. The victim’s mother works as a maid.
On September 5, the accused touched the girl inappropriately when she was at his house. While the girl’s mother picked her up later in the day, she was not aware of the incident. “The girl must have been too scared to confide in her family. The accused took advantage of this and touched her inappropriately for the second time the next day. This time, she told her mother late in the evening,” a police official said.
The girl’s mother approached the police on Thursday following which an FIR was registered under provisions of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The accused was arrested thereafter and produced before a magistrate court.
