Ban to check-in laptop in Airbus

International aviation agencies are mulling over the issue of laptop and Mobile battery fires would go undetected and cause a major accident.

Considering the situation, India’s aviation regulator has the possibility of banning large personal electronic devices (PEDs) from check-in luggage for safety reasons.

Directorate General of Civil Aviation said India is waiting for a decision in this regard by any of the leading aviation agencies before following suit.

This step taken to move on after incident happen, mobile phones caught fire in mid-air last week on a Delhi-Indore flight, the damage stopped by the cabin crew who quickly used the fire safe kit.

The American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has submitted test results in the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) about lithium battery gadgets which can lead to loss of aircraft.

“FAA fire safety branch conducted 10 tests utilising a fully charged laptop computer inside a suitcase and founded a heat for a lithium ion cell in the battery to force it into thermal runaway and fire suppression system of the aircraft is compromised which could lead to the loss of the aircraft.

Till date cell phones, tablets, laptops are allowed to carry but power banks, portable mobile chargers, and e-cigarettes are banned in check-in baggage in India.
