The Opposition fiercely raised the question in Rajya Sabha on President’s speech, after which the proceedings were postponed till 12 noon.

Congress MP Anand Sharma has shown the aggressive attitude in the Rajya Sabha. Congress objected to the speech of President Ramnath Kobindon 25th July 2017.

Describing the objection, Congress leader Anand Sharma in the Rajya Sabha alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party has insulted Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. President Ramnath Kovind had said in his speech addressing the country after the swearing in, “One such society, which Mahatma Gandhi and Deendayal Upadhyay had imagined, is also important for our human values.”

On this, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that how could it be that a member would question the President’s speech. Arun Jaitley demanded to remove Anand Sharma’s statement from proceedings, after which the House was furious and had to adjourn the proceeding till 12 o’clock.

Earlier, the Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had objected to the President’s speech and termed his swearing declaration unfortunate. He had said that the President did not take the name of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, in his speech, while taking the names of other ministers included in his cabinet. He said that President Kovind should have been careful that he is no longer a member of the BJP.
