The Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has called for a status report from the police in a case of alleged child sex abuse in an Andheri school.

Early this month, parents of a three-year-old student had filed a case against the school trustee, a foreign national, alleging that he sexually abused their daughter. He was booked under Sections 4, 6, and 10 of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The commission held a hearing in the matter on Wednesday. “The investigating officer was not present at the hearing. There were two representatives from the school. We have called for a status report on the police investigation. The accused has not yet been arrested. He would have to be extradited to India. He is in communication with the ministry of external affairs through the government of a European country,” an official from the commission said.

In their complaint, the parents had alleged that the accused had also molested a boy from the school, but his parents did not file any complaint.

According to the girl’s parents, their daughter has sexually assaulted four months ago. They said they sensed a problem when she kept touching her private parts. After asking her if anybody had touched her inappropriately, she answered, “people at the school”. The police have also questioned a teacher in connection with the case. Both the trustee and the teacher have denied the allegations made by the parents.
