Gurdaspur Lok Sabha leaded by Congress followed by BJP and AAP

Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat counting process started at 08:00 am in Punjab.

The major party in the race is concern among the Congress, the BJP, and the AAP was underway at Gurdaspur on Sunday. Two votes counting centres have been set for six assembly constituencies of Gurdaspur district that is Sukhjindra College, Gurdaspur and for other three assembly constituencies of Pathankot district is SD College in Pathankot under the tight security.

The Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat has nine Assembly segments — Bhoa, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Dinanagar, Qadian, Fathegarh Churian, Dera Baba Nanak, Sujanpur and Batala.

According to referendum barometer for the popularity of last six-month Congress government in Punjab Congress candidate Sunil Jakhar had earlier claimed the by poll and The BJP had also tried pulling the seat of Vinod Khanna.

AAP is the main opposition party in Punjab with 20 seats in the House, was also looking to strengthen its presence in the state with victory in the by poll.

The result will decide the fate of total 11 candidates including Congress nominee Sunil Jakhar, BJP’s Swaran Salaria and AAP’s Major General (retd) Suresh Khajuria.

The high-stakes recorded as 70.03 per cent in 2014 for general elections. In Gurdaspur Lok Sabha and Dera Baba Nanak Vidhan Sabha constituency, had registered maximum voting percentage that is 65 per cent.
