Zakir Naik 51, is an Indian citizen and currently based in abroad, fled India in July 2016, after terrorists in neighboring Bangladesh claimed that they were inspired by his speeches. In the month of November, the NIA had registered a case against the spiritual evangelist at its Mumbai branch under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. His Mumbai-based NGO, Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), has already been declared an unlawful association by the Union Home Ministry.

After November Delhi High Court Dismisses Plea Challenging Ban on Zakir Naik’s Islamic Research Foundation as Naik has been accused of spreading hatred by his speeches, funding terrorists and for money laundering. But according to Naik’s interaction with media, he denied all the charges leveled on him.

Since July 2016, India is trying to get Naik to interrogate but he had petitioned to Interpol for not issuing Red Corner Notice (RCN) against him as he was being targeted by politician for religious persecution against minorities in India

According to NIA, Naik who is also a founder of Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) is wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a case of alleged incitement for terror activities.

Source of NIA said IPA (International Police Agency) has rejected the plea for RCN against Naik on the ground that when the request was sent by NIA through CBI, there was no charge sheet filed in any court in India against Naik.

NIA plea to IPA in the month of May 2017 and charge sheet was filed against Naik in the month of October 2017.

In a communication sent to Naik’s lawyer in Mumbai, the Interpol has said that it has deleted data with regard to Naik from its records as the same had been contested by Naik. Interpol stated: “After a thorough examination of elements before it, the Commission found that the data contested raised questions as to compliance with applicable rules.” Accordingly, the data was deleted on November 9.

“Meeting held by Interpol on an India plea for RCN against Naik was turned into setback when Interpol did not issue notice due to lack of a charge sheet. A home ministry official said, we have filed the charge sheet and we will send a fresh request and we are sure Interpol will issue RCN this time”.

Naik charge sheet has been filed under section 10 UA (P) Act and Sections 120B, 153A, 295A, 298 and 505(2) of the IPC and named as an absconding accused.
