The first day of “Shravan” 7 Pilgrims were killed and 14 others injuredAmarnathyatra when terrorists fire on a bus near Batengoo in Anantnag district at Jammu and Kashmir’s on Monday. This is not happening first-timewithAmarnath pilgrims. In the month of July 2001, a militant hurled two grenades at a camp and later opened fire near the Amarnath shrine killing nearly 13 people. The next year, even though nearly 15,000 security personnel and policemen were deployed to offer protection to the pilgrims, terrorists killed eight pilgrims and injured 30 in an attack on the Nunwan camp on the way to the Amarnath shrine.

According to police the terrorists initially attacked a police bunker at Batengoo and police returned the fire and after that, the bus was attacked. Initial reports said the bus was not registered with the Amarnath shrine board and was travelling after permitted hours and therefore without adequate security.

All the political party called for Jammu bandh tomorrow against the death of seven Amarnath pilgrims in a terror attack at Anantnag,” VHP spokesman Rajesh Kumar said.

Shri Rajnath Singh Union home ministry officials are scheduled to visit J&K on Tuesday. They include minister of state for home HansrajAhir and Kashmir joint secretary Gyaneshwar Kumar. J&K Governor NN Vohra has also called for a meeting in Srinagar, said ANI. Separately, a high-level meet is underway at home minister Rajnath Singh residence to discuss the attack.But  Meanwhile, CRPF officials told ANI the Amarnath yatra will continue from Jammu Tuesday.
