Less than a month before the expiry of the deadline to ensure Mumbai’s dumping ground complies with pollution norms BMC has approached the Bombay high court once again seeking a four-year extension.

Hearing the corporation’s application, a division bench of Chief  Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice Nitin Jamdar ordered that the plea is placed before a bench headed by Justice Abhay Oka.

In February 2016, a bench headed by Justice Oka had banned all new construction projects in Mumbai till the BMC ensured that the Deonar and Mulund dumping grounds comply with pollution norms. The HC had set a deadline of June 30 for the BMC. Senior advocate A Y Sakhare, counsel for the BMC, said that latter would require four years to comply with the new Municipal Solid Waste Rules.
