Commuters may soon be able to check live status and position of local trains on Google Maps. The Western Railway authorities are planning to approach Google in order to link the trains with Google maps. The move comes after constant demand from the computers to provide real-time information on locals.

The Western Railway authorities are planning to approach Google in order to link the trains with Google Maps.
The move comes after constant demand from the commuters’ associations to provide real-time information on local train services.
Once the plan is finalised, GPS systems will be installed in the motormen’s cabins of the suburban trains.
The WR authorities are also exploring the possibility of setting up servers to determine the position of the trains.
LataArgade, the vice-president, Suburban Rail Passenger Federation, said, “It will be a boon for passengers. Such innovative methods should be used for city’s suburban rail network.”
“The facility should be introduced as soon as possible as it will help people during an emergency,” said Ankita Shah, a daily commuter.
