Chief Minister promises to extend Metro up to Gaimukh

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was speaking at the Bhoomipujan ceremony for the 403 MLD (million litres per day) Surya Regional Water Supply Scheme on Monday and has promised Mira-Bhayander residents that Metro will be extended up to Gaimukh and assured to conduct a feasibility study immediately.

Fadnavis said, “MMRDA is meant to develop the metropolitan region and we are committed to fulfilling your requirements. “I promise you an integrated transport system and a stadium at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Maidan in Mira Road.”

The chief minister further announced a Ro-Ro service that will carry passengers and vehicles around areas Gorai, Borivli, Bhayander and Vasai. “This would mean that the Mira-Bhayander area will get connectivity through railway, Metro, road, and water,” Fadnavis said.

The Surya Regional Water Supply Scheme will provide water to the 20 lakh residents of the Mira-Bhayander and Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporations through an 88-km pipeline starting from Suryanagar mainly along ZP NH-8 up to Ghodbunder junction.

Of the 403 MLD of water, Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation will receive 218 MLD and Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation 185 MLD daily. This water supply system which will use gravity to reach water to its destination saving electricity and related costs. This project costing Rs 1,329 crore is expected to be completed within 34 months.
