GHAZIABAD BIHAR: A 29-year-old IAS officer District Magistrate found dead on railway tracks in Ghaziabad Bihar and police said: Mukesh Pandey allegedly committed suicide by coming under a train in Ghaziabad on Friday, barely a week after taking charge as the top official of Bihar’s Buxar district.

Mukesh Pandey deceased is survived by his wife and a two-month-old daughter.

Pandey hold14th ranked in Union Public Service Examination (UPSC), for all-India in 2012 which is considered the toughest competitive exams in India to select the country’s top officials.

The body was found with the head severed from the torso.

Police said Pandey was identified from official documents found on the body. A note was also found on him with mention of a “detailed suicide note” in his bag at a hotel room.

“I am committing suicide out of my own volition…,” police said quoting Pandey’s handwritten note found on the body.

Pandey had checked into the posh Leela Palace Hotel in Delhi during the day on Thursday. His body was recovered from the railway tracks at around 9 pm by a team of Government Railway Police (GRP).

Investigators said they were yet to ascertain the motive for the alleged suicide but sources said marital discord could be a reason for ending his life.

A resident of Bihar’s Saran district, Pandey joined as the district magistrate of Buxar on August 4. His wife and daughter were yet to shift toBuxar.

He was earlier posted as deputy development commissioner at Katihar. His first posting was as sub-divisional officer, Balia, in Bihar’s Begusarai district.

Sources said Pandey was married in 2014 into a prominent business family, which has a car showroom in Patna.

After his matriculation and higher secondary education in Assam, Pandey graduated in English from Guwahati’s prestigious Cotton College.
