A black man about 26 year old from Rutherford County, Tennessee, suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene. He was taken into custody and is at the hospital with non-life-threatening wounds, police said.

Emergency respondents were called to the Pin Hook Road church. The shooter is among those wounded, the fire department says. One of the victims was in more serious condition than the others. The victims include three women and three men, police said. Two are in critical condition and the others are stable, a Vanderbilt University Medical Center spokesman told

“The two critical patients suffered gunshot wounds to (their) chest and torso. The four other patients suffered gunshot wounds to their extremities,” John Howser told the newspaper.

Another shooting victim was hospitalized at another medical center and his or her condition is not known. And a man who was pistol whipped after confronting the shooter was also hospitalized with a head injury that is not life-threatening, according to police.
