Senior Journalist Gauri Lankesh, Shot dead outside her house in south Bengaluru’s Rajarajeshwari Nagar on Tuesday evening.

Top Police officers rushed to Lankesh Gauri home after she was shot and as per the reports suggested by them the unidentified men shot her seven times from close range and Three bullets had hit her one on the forehead.

She was returning home from work when she was gunned down by three men on a motorcycle between 7.45 pm and 8 pm, police said

Police have recovered four cartridges from the spot. Her body has been taken to the Victoria Hospital for a postmortem.

According to neighbour told police “Usually, she would drive back home late at night. Today, she returned earlier and we heard gunshots and rushed out. For a few minutes, we could not understand what had happened. Then, we realized that Gauri had been shot and was lying in a pool of blood near the door of her house,”

Gauri Lankesh was Born in 1962, Ms. Lankesh was the elder daughter of P Lankesh, who an edited Kannada weekly tabloid ‘Lankesh Patrike’ for two decades since 1980.

Ms.  Lankesh was not a journalist who would report a story. She always goes behind the story and stands by the people behind the story said by senior lawyer BT Venkatesh, who has handled cases for the murdered journalist.

Her paper ran investigative pieces and left a big impact on Karnataka politics as she was known for her work that often criticized the system and pointed out alleged flaws in policy and governance. Her journalism was peppered with activism, people who have known her closely say.
They say she minced no words in criticizing the establishment for what she saw were its shortcomings.

And gossip about her is she was a true democrat who criticized the system wherever she found fault so that it could improve. But this led to her making a wide range of enemies across the system.

Ms. Lankesh had often said in public forums that attacking people just because they have a different ideology would do no good to the country.

Bharatiya Janata Party parliamentarian (BJP) Prahlad Joshi and had been sentenced to six months in jail. She was out on bail.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said “I have spoken to the police commissioner and the Director General of Police” and three police teams have been formed to investigate the murder of Gauri Lankesh and that the culprits must be caught.

Home minister Ramalinga Reddy told reporters.”Gauri’s killing has parallels with Kalburgi’s killing. We have formed three teams to hunt the killers. She had called me last Thursday and said she wanted to meet me. She was to meet me on Monday but she never turned up. She had received no threat calls,”
