The leader of opposition in Legislative Council DhananjayMunde alleged that industries minister Subhash Desai had de-notified a 400 acre acquired land near Igatpuri in Nashik district belonging to Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) with a view to facilitate a private developer to the tune of some thousands of crores of rupees. Besides demanding the resignation of Mehta, the opposition added fresh demand of resignation of Subhash Desai as well.

Raising the issue amidst uproarious scenes in the Upper House the leader of opposition stated that the Minister for Industries had de-notified about seven per cent of the acquired land by the MIDC. Demanding a judicial probe into the issue, he added that the land was returned to the owner flouting rules.

He said, “In 2016 several agreements were signed in the Magnetic Maharashtra conclave, but there was not enough land available for the industries. However, the Minister for Industries de-notified 60 per cent of the land notified for MIDC.” He claimed that around 400 acres of land acquired by MIDC was given to a developer close to Sena. Munde argued that the land was valued at around Rs 3,000 crore to Rs 4,000 crore.

He further demanded a judicial probe into the issue and resignation of Desai and added that the opposition will not allow any business of the house to be transacted till the Minister for Industries tendered his resignation. Earlier in the morning, deputy chairman ManikraoThakare adjourned the proceedings three times till 12 noon.

As the House reassembled for the question hour, the opposition continued to raise slogans demanding the resignation of the BJP and Sena ministers, chairman RamrajeNaik-Nimbalkar adjourned the proceedings six more times. Amidst the uproar, the chair passed some official bills and other official business.
