Mumbai University now tracked by IT officials for its online assessment

The governor’s office and the stategovernment are closely monitoring the assessment process at Mumbai University. On Sunday, a special team from the government’s information technology (IT) department visited the campus to guide university officials in order to expedite the production and announcement of results.

University’s examination house has now decided to work in two shifts to increase productivity.Till Sunday evening, 273 of the 477 results were announced. Only about 10,229 answersheets were assessed by 374 teachers. Around 2.30 lakh papers are yet to be assessed.
The team from the IT department gave guidance on how the reconciliation process could be done using technology instead of doing it manually, said an official. Reconciliation is a process where the university tallies the number of students giving the exam with the answer booklets. The government team came to study the university’s system, and ascertain if there were any flaws.

Officials also say that the governor’s secretary, B Venugopal Reddy, is visiting the university’s examination house on a regular basis to monitor the process to ensure the results are announced faster. The university asked teachers from colleges in the Konkan region to work from colleges in Panvel to increase the assessment speed.

Bombay University and College Teachers’ Union will be holding a signature campaign on Tuesday.
