Mumbai: A senior officer of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), Mumbai, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of a hotel room on Wednesday.

“Sandeep Rajourie (34) was posted as Assistant Director General of ITS department of telecom in MTNL. He hanged himself from the ceiling fan of the hotel room in Powai at around 11:30 am on Wednesday,” said ND Reddy, Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police.

No suicide note has been recovered from the spot, said DCP Reddy and added, “The reason of his suicide is not known yet. However, his family members have alleged that Rajourie was being mentally harassed in office and was depressed.” Sources have informed that Rajourie was depressed as one of his female colleagues, senior to him, used to insult him for being reportedly slow at his work. Rajourie had booked a room in a lodge at New Lake Palace building in Powai. “He had brought his wife’s dupatta and hanged himself from the ceiling on 11th floor of room number 106 of the lodge. His room was locked from inside,” said DCP Reddy.

“The hotel staff smelled something foul from his room. His room was opened with a duplicate key. When they went inside, they found Rajourie hanging from the ceiling and informed the police,” said another officer from Powai police station where an accidental death case was registered. Police sent his body to Rajawadi hospital for post-mortem.
