Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has illuminated the entire heritage building with different colour themes using Light-Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs on the occasion of its 125th anniversary. The new lighting has attracted Mumbaikars and people are seen clicking selfies against the illuminated iconic structure. The BMC would pay around Rs 1 lakh for electricity bills every month due to the lighting.

Currently from 8 pm till 2 am the heritage structure would be kept illuminated with LED lights and this would continue for the entire year. The walls of the heritage structure underwent drilling for the placement of these bulbs. A senior civic officer stated that every day people would see different colour schemes in pink, green, blue, white, etc, as colourful LED bulbs have been placed which will enhance the beauty of the heritage structure.

He further added, “Around 850 boxes of bulbs have been used and placed on the walls of the iconic building. Watchdog security company through tender process was selected for the procurement of these lights. As the bulbs are LED the consumption of power will be too low. Therefore, as per our assumption, we (BMC) would pay around Rs 1 lakh for electricity bill every month, if the lighting is kept on for seven hours daily.” Another civic officer remarked that small nails have been used to fit these LED bulbs. The Watchdog security company will look after the maintenance for up to two years.
