The Centre on Friday issued a notification that will allow Maharashtra civic bodies such as the BMC to grant environmental clearances for projects of up to 1.5 lakh square meters. The notification, issued on Friday by the Ministry of Environments, Forests and Climate Change (MOEFCC), states that all reality projects falling in Konkan and Pune division. They no longer have to apply for separate environment clearances. State officials said only 10% to 20% projects will have to go through the “lengthy” prior environment approval procedure.
This includes Mumbai, its metropolitan region, and Pune and its metropolitan region, which is the hub of real estate in the state. Last month, a similar notification, first for any city in the country, was issued for Delhi.
