Naval officers dismissed with disgrace for sexual assault

Mumbai: A case of alleged sexual offence by two naval sailors against minor girls has surfaced bring a bad name to the Navy. The incident which happened a few months ago and was investigated in detail by the Navy with a court martial against the accused officers.

“The court martial has found both sailors guilty and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment for 15 years and 12 years respectively and dismissed with disgrace from naval service,” reads a defence press release. The naval trial ensured safeguards including protection of the identity of victims as per Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of 2012. Further, in accordance with the provisions of the Act, other details of the case are not being disclosed, it added.
