Mumbai: Two civic officers named Dinesh Bhosale, assistant engineer, and Rajeshkumar Yadav, sub-engineer, from the maintenance department of Bandra west Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), was allegedly assaulted by the Shiv SenaShakhaPramuk Sunil Jadhav on Monday. The fight rose after the officials seized Ganpati pandal materials which were illegally kept on 29th road Khar for sale by Shashikant Lad who runs a decoration shop named as ‘Tatya’.

Yadav while speaking to the Free Press Journal stated that the scuffle took place at the BMC office itself on Monday. Jadhav wanted the seized material free of cost but that was not possible. As per the Mumbai Municipal Act, they issued a challan to Lad, the decorator, of Rs10,000 and asked him to take away the material, but Lad was insisting on a lesser amount. Next day, Lad’s friend Jadhav came to the Bandra BMC officer and started beating them up. It was only when the security came for help that he stopped hitting them.

On Friday, the two officials took action against Sai Baba Mandir located in Khar West as per the Bombay High Court order to demolish illegal shrines and also demolished the illegal decoration shop adjoining it. In Bandra west, there are 30 illegal shrines which are yet to be demolished. Dinesh Bhosle is currently admitted in Bhabha Hospital with a shoulder injury. While the other officer Yadav has been discharged.

Another civic officer from the Bandra Ward stated that the accused has claimed that the officials assaulted him and fractured his hand. He got himself admitted to Bhabha Hospital so that he cannot be arrested by the police. A First Information Report has been filed against the SenaShakhaPramukhJadhav at Bandra police station under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections  353, 332, 506(II), 504. On the contrary, Jadhav too filed a complaint against the civic officer.

As per the Supreme Court guidelines, any kind of investigation or FIR cannot be registered against government officials without prior sanction of government. Meanwhile, Mayor VishwanathMahadeshwar met the accused who is admitted to the same hospital. But did not visit the injured officials who were on the same floor of the hospital building.
