Thane: Girl dies after falling from 27th floor, while trying to hang towel on clothesline

On Tuesday, in Thane, a 16-year-old died after falling from her 27th-floor residence. Prima facie, it is being said that it was an accident and the girl fell off while trying to hang the towel on the clothesline in the balcony.

The incident

16-year-old Jyoti Sharma was an HSC student and lived at Mayflower building in Hiranandani Meadows in Vartak Nagar. According to a report in Mid-Day, the girl had gone out to the balcony to hang a towel on the clothesline, but lost her balance and fell to her death. According to her family, there was no grill to any balcony in the society, as the housing society bears its residents to construct any grilles to the balcony.

According to police, the watchman was going to the electric room to turn on the lights of the society when he heard the sound of something falling down from the building.

The police investigation

The local Chitalsar police have, as per procedure, taken an Accidental Death Report and are investigating the matter. GD Pingale, senior inspector of Chitalsar police station in Thane told Indian Express, “The family and friends of the girl are obviously in a state of shock. We wanted to record their statement to get some more clarity on the incident. They are however not in a state of mind to answer our queries.”

He further added that the final rites of the girl were carried out on Wednesday by family in Thane, and, after two days, they will record their statements.
