Mumbai: Co-accused-turned-approver in the Sheena Bora murder case Shyamvar Rai was on Friday cross-examined by his former boss Indrani Mukherjee through a counsel. Rai, who spilled the beans in the murder case, accepted that he does not understand English but interestingly made his plea for confessing crime in English.

Rai was present in the special CBI court as he is currently deposing as a prosecution witness in the case. Interestingly, he failed to answer several questions asked to him. Nearly 70 per cent of questions were answered in ‘can’t say’ manner. Noted advocate SudeepPasbola, appearing for Indrani, grilled Rai for more than two hours and asked nearly 50 questions to him.

During the course of examination, Rai accepted the fact that he does not understand, write, read or speak English language. He also disclosed that he never asked anyone to make an application before the Magistrate expressing his desire to be an approver in the case. He also said that he himself wrote a letter to the Magistrate expressing his desire to be an approver and further revealed that his letter was never returned to him neither does he have any copy of the said letter.Interestingly, Rai’s written plea that was shown to him from the court records was in English language. Rai, who had disclosed the minute details of how Indrani and her two husbands conspired the crime,  failed to recollect a several dates or time when his statements were recorded or when he was produced in court etc. Rai’s cross-examination would continue on Monday.
