The first heavy downpour of the season of Mumbai rain makes all over witness for BMC work and their fake promises. As rain began raining on Saturday night and continued till Sunday morning, leaving the city and its adjoining areas waterlogged.

Apart from the chronically waterlogged spots like Hindmata in Parel, and Kings Circle among others, Cuffe Parade and Dahisaretcare also emerging as such zones, primarily due to the Metro construction work. “Cuffe Parade hasn’t flooded in the last 30 years. It is only due to MMRDA’s Metro construction that storm water drains were damaged, which caused waterlogging,” said Robin Jaisinghania a resident of Cuffe Parade. Deputy Municipal Commissioner, SudhirNaik, said that drains in Mumbai cannot handle rains above 50 mm per hour and due to the topography of the city, flooding is bound to occur in certain parts of the city.

Not only Mumbai, even Thane received 204 mm rainfall on Sunday, which led to waterlogging at several places, disrupting Central Railway (CR) services until noon.CR officials blamed Thane Municipal Corporation, saying that the construction of the ready mix concrete plant, which has raised the surface, is resulting in the water collecting at the tracks. Widening of the road and the subsequent concreting has also obstructed the flow of rain water. Waterlogging on the tracks also caused the suspension of services on Slow Line trains for a couple of hours and extended the mega block beyond the scheduled time of 3.30 pm.
