Mumbai: Following the failure of the Mumbai University (MU) to declare all its results by the July 31 deadline, students, and political parties protested over the delay outside the university campus at Kalina, Fort, and the Vidhan Bhavan.

The protesters raised slogans, display placards, and banners while demanding the resignation of Sanjay Deshmukh, MU’s Vice-Chancellor. They also criticized the state education ministry and voiced an urgent need for a declaration of results and distribution of mark sheets.

Of 477 examinations MU conducted, 173 results were declared till Monday and by Tuesday evening 10 more were announced. Still, 294 results are pending. During the protest, SFI district secretary Ramesh Shere said there has already been a delay of more than one month and demanded to wave off the re-evaluation fee of Rs 600. Students said they are waiting for a meeting with the V-C since July. “We have been waiting for an appointment but the officials seem to be hiding. The V-C and School Education Minister Vinod Tawde are responsible for this mess and should resign. We will continue our protests till this matter is resolved,” a student said.

The political party backed unions like Yuva Sena and ABVP that have joined the protest and demanded their resignation. PramodKarad, a senior member of ABVP, said, “We demand the resignation as this delay has disrupted the future of lakhs of students.”

A senior member of Yuva Sena said, “We have been told that the university will declare all its results by August 15.” In the meantime, the Bombay University and College Teachers’ Union (BUCTU) has filed a writ petition in the high court against the use of a new software for answer script evaluation. The university on Monday revealed that all results would be announced by August 5 and the mark sheets will be given within eight days of result declaration. The Yuva Sena claimed that the V-C will hold a press conference on Wednesday.
