Spice Jet’s aircraft slipped in runway

MUMBAI: Airport operations affected due to heavy rain and Spice Jet flight SG703.

Spice Jet flight last night overshot the runway and got stuck in the muddy area on the side. All 183 passengers were however safe. The Spice Jet flight take-off from Varanasi to land in Mumbai and when it was landing to Mumbai airport.

Main runway of Mumbai airport’s will be closed till at least 3pm today said the Airport Authority of India, as Spice Jet aircraft hasn’t been towed away.

The secondary runway is operating most of the airport. But heavy rains has  impact schedules delaying flights by half an hour on average.

Over 15 Mumbai-Delhi flights delayed and 10 cancelled today because of  incident at Mumbai airport.

Spokesperson at the airport said the disabled aircraft recovery kit from Air India is at the site and preparation of pavement underneath the aircraft is in progress. Air India is a member of the International Airlines Technical Pool (IATP), a convention for sharing resources to generate economic savings and support on time dispatch reliability and operational safety. As such, the national carrier is the sole custodian of disabled aircraft recovery kits in India and South Asia.
